AGRA COVID-19 Situation Report

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread across the African continent, its implications are spreading beyond the health crisis. It has economic ramifications and is already impacting food security across Africa. To this end, AGRA is rolling out a regular situation report (SitRep) bringing together timely information from our country offices, who in turn reflect what we hear and see from smallholder farmers and SMEs “on-the-ground,” governments and continental partners.

As an institution that works to improve the wellbeing of millions of Africa’s smallholder farmers, we are deeply concerned about COVID-19, the global pandemic that threatens so many of us. We continue to keep those that are affected in our thoughts and prayers and urge the rest of us to practice prevention measures as guided by governments and public health experts.

The COVID-19 pandemic now entering its fourth month has sparked an unprecedented global health crisis that has fundamentally disrupted the social and economic fabric of all countries. Governments have imposed severe restrictions on movements and travel that have virtually locked down countries.
