The Partnership for Inclusive Agricultural Transformation in Africa (PIATA) is a unique strategic partnership launched in 2017 that enables African agriculture actors to do business differently as they support leaders to drive an inclusive agricultural transformation. The innovative partnership is driving integrated delivery within agro-economic zones and across value chains, enhanced in-country coordination to leverage wider investments and deliberate engagement with private sector to build sustainable systems that will transition agriculture from subsistence into a business that works.

PIATA partners include AGRA — the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation — the Rockefeller Foundation — the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) — the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) — and the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

These partners provide direct financial support to AGRA and its programs. They provide strategic partnership that covers other resources, capabilities, voice, and guidance on development issues. They also link AGRA with their wider portfolios and their networks of influence.

These partners provide agribusiness linkage for smallholder farmers to access yield-enhancing inputs, post-harvest management, logistics and markets. Their investment in agricultural systems is a critical element of scaling and sustainability for AGRA’s interventions.

These are prime movers of rural, agricultural and economic development. They set national and local priorities, policies, investments and may also play a coordinating role. They are, potentially, the greatest source of leverage for AGRA’s work and are key to scaling-up and sustaining agricultural systems

AGRA recognizes that meaningful and lasting change in African agriculture means investing in and partnering with our own local organizations.

Over the years we have engaged hundreds of partners in the public and private sector who are working directly with African farmers, African businesses and African governments to lay the groundwork for economic growth through agriculture.

These partners deliver on AGRA’s programs either through grants, contracts, and partnerships to reach farmers and other value chain actors

AGRA works with Non-State Actors, Farmers Organizations, Youths and Women Organizations on shared interest to:

1. Increase adoption of proven innovative models and technologies for increased agriculture production and productivity
2. Bring about an enabling policy environment for inclusive agricultural transformation at national and state (districts/county levels)
3. Increase housed income for smallholder farmers while catalysing inclusive agricultural transformation
