Alice Ruhweza

President

Alice Ruhweza is the current AGRA President. Previously, she served as the Regional Director for Africa at the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), where she led efforts to shape the sustainability agenda across the continent and advanced initiatives aligned with global conservation priorities.

Prior to WWF, Alice held senior leadership roles at Conservation International. She served as Executive Director of the Vital Signs Programme, championing data-driven policymaking across multiple countries, and later as Interim Vice President of Sustainable Production, working across sectors to promote sustainable practices in agriculture, mining, and energy.

Earlier in her career, Alice held a pivotal role at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), where she led the Global Environment Finance Unit for Africa. In this capacity, she mobilized more than USD 600 million to support environmental initiatives across more than 40 sub-Saharan African countries.

Alice has extensive experience in sustainable development, capacity building, and community engagement. She holds a Master’s degree in Agricultural and Applied Economics from the University of Wisconsin and a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences from Makerere University.
