Agriculture in
Rwanda

The work of AGRA in Rwanda is aligned with the Government of Rwanda’s Strategic Plan for the Transformation of Agriculture (PSTA IV). AGRA works with partners and the Government of Rwanda to increase incentives for private sector participation and investment into the sector while also enhancing access to finance and markets; the adoption of climate smart technologies and use of inputs (seeds and fertilizer).

Overview

AGRA has worked in Rwanda since 2006 making investments in the areas of inputs and output markets and capacity building in research. In the first decade of our work, we invested US$ 9 in the agricultural sector.

Our Investments

Our strategy and support for Rwanda from 2017 to 2021, built further on previous investments and impact to reach 410,000 smallholder farmers at an estimated cost of $22.8 million – 11.8 million of which have already been secured.

We have prioritized supporting the development of the seed sector given its central place in transforming the Agriculture sector. This is an area in which AGRA has strong comparative advantage to deliver impact.
