Annette Kahama

General Counsel & Corporation Secretary

Annette, a Kenyan national, is a seasoned corporate lawyer currently serving as the General Counsel & Corporation Secretary of AGRA and she is based in Nairobi, Kenya.

In this role, Annette is responsible for overseeing the legal operations of AGRA and providing governance advice and counsel to the management and managing the workings of the Board of Directors. She additionally leads the legal team in maintaining the integrity of the governance framework of AGRA and its compliance with statutory and ensuring that the regulatory requirements in AGRA’s 11 focus countries are upheld.

Annette’s key areas of expertise include: managing legal risks, improving legal operational efficiency, removing ineffectiveness and bureaucracies associated with legal procedures, developing well-defined legal and compliance framework for different countries of operation, managing a diverse and global board, and advising on corporate and institutional legal matters.

Before joining AGRA, she served for over a decade with various organisations as an in-house lawyer acting as the legal advisor to the executive management and board.

She was previously Head of Legal & Secretarial Services in a property development firm operating in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. Prior to this she served for a number of years in the financial services sector as Head of Legal Services for an insurance company in Kenya.

Annette is a practicing advocate of the High Court of Kenya and holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi, a Post Graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law , and a Master of Commercial and Corporate Laws (LLM) from the University of London.
