Immediate former USAID Administrator Gayle Smith (L) and Dr. Agnes Kalibata (R), President, AGRA, signed an agreement to deepen ongoing coordination between the two organizations.
The agreement strengthens USAID’s ongoing coordination and through it, the U.S. Government and AGRA will work together in a range of areas relevant to achieving food security in Africa, such as local and regional policy, agricultural market development, and improved seed systems.
Dr. Kanayo Nwanze, immediate former President, IFAD and Dr. Agnes Kalibata, President AGRA signed an MoU which builds on cooperation between the two organizations, particularly in support of improving smallholder farmers’ access to markets.
Mr. William Asiko, Executive Director, Grow Africa and Dr. Agnes Kalibata, AGRA President signed a collaboration agreement that will guide cooperation in the implementation of projects including the East African potato value chain consortium.
This commitment will help to unlock much-needed investment in the regional potato value chain to achieve its production potential and benefit thousands of smallholder farmers. The market opportunity for potato processing in the East African Community (EAC) is estimated to represent up to US$1.2bn by 2025.
